The revision of my music video analysis, "Dear Future Husband" by Meghan Trainor really emphasizes the revision process. Once I begin to make my changes I will have applied the procedural and declarative knowledge to my paper. This meets the requirements of of the learning outcome of revision and writing as a process because I really focusing on making my paper a more well rounded piece of work. The point of revising a paper is to learn from your mistakes and to fix them. Once the mistakes are edited my paper will flow better and will be a better paper in general. Fixing my mistakes will help my apply what I have learned in Composition 105 and learn how to write in a different way.
The paper I chose to revise for composition 105 is my music video analysis. I wrote my paper on Meghan Trainor’s “Dear Future Husband” music video. This was the second paper that was written and could use some work.
For my revision, I would use the procedural revision tactic. The procedural knowledge in writing really has to do with how the writer argues their point of view in the paper. In my paper I do not completely “connect the dots” on how certain parts of the video are relevant to the other parts. This makes my points of discussion very disjointed. For example; in my paper I discuss how many different outfits are worn by the dancers and singers in the video, but I fail to show how that is important or relevant to my argument. I did not really give reasons as to why I was making those points in my paper. The article will have some important revisions that will help make help make it a better rounded paper. For example I will explain why the costume changes are important to the overall effect of the video. I will also explain why Meghan Trainor wanted the music video to look like a modern twist on the cliché 1950’s housewife. Once the points are discussed, the paper will be much smoother and make much more sense. This process would be using declarative knowledge to think through the essentials that this paper needs to make it a better music video analysis. Declarative: This is knowing "that" rather than "when". An example of this would be knowing facts rather than knowing of when to do a procedure.
Procedural: This is a knowledge of how to do a certain procedure. Conditional: This is the knowledge of knowing why and when to do or not do a procedure. |
